Teacher Wild weekend
with EVOLVE Advice

Escape the Classroom | Adventure & Conservation Work | Total Disconnect | Get Perspective
You're invited to join us for our annual Teacher Wild Weekend in The Bioasis. This year we’re bringing you something special. Working with EVOLVE Advice, we’ll be hosting a group of up to 24 teaching professionals for a long weekend full of adventure, reflection, perspective and fun. It's a chance to truly get away from your everyday and reset in a stunning wild environment.
Set in 1,200-acres of rugged coastline, ancient woodland, wildflower meadows and sparkling rivers, The Bioasis is the perfect place to rest, rejuvenate and get perspective on life and all things education related.
We'll be spending the days walking and canoeing, meditating beneath ancient trees and getting stuck in to some hands-on conservation work. The weekend is designed to ignite your creativity and empty your stress bucket.
At night, we'll put the world to rights around the campfire with reflections, stories of adventure and maybe a helping (or two?) of Eton Mess or Banoffee Pie.

The PLAN:
3 Day, 2 night Teachers Wild Weekend Away
Embark on a three day, two night mission to one of our Basecamps, set deep in the heart of the Bioasis. The weekend, led by our team of outdoor instructors and wild guides, and supported by members of the EVOLVE Advice team, provides the much-needed opportunity for connecting with fellow educators for peer-to-peer learning and sharing good practice, all whilst embarking on a mix of activities, reflection, and fun:

-
Outdoor Adventure: Having left our vehicles on day one, our only form of transport will be our own two feet to explore the forests and meadows of The Bioasis, as well as canoes to explore the river, salt marshes and estuary. Leave your workload and stresses behind whilst you surround yourself with like-minded people and the beautiful nature of England's South West

-
Nature immersion and biodiversity monitoring: Nature is proven to de-stress and encourage diversity of thought. We’ll bring nature to life, with the use of specialist biodiversity monitoring equipment, learning to track animals and contribute to on-going conservation efforts including plastic clean-ups and/or removal of invasive plant species. Through hands-on, practical conservation work, we’ll work together having a positive effect on the environment, reconnecting with the natural world in the process.

-
Team Building challenges: Your first task? Navigate your way to your Bioasis basecamp, with only a breadcrumb trail of clues and information. Using navigation skills, morse-code, locating equipment dead drops and communicating with Bioasis mission control via radio, you’ll need strong teamwork skills and strategic thinking to be successful. The aim is to inspire creativity and resilience, encouraging out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving.

-
A chance to reflect: There will be plenty of time to reflect on our personal and professional journeys. And, as always, the support and sounding board of a group of fellow teaching professionals will no doubt come shining through as we swap stories and advice around the firepit.
-
Knowledge & CPD: EVOLVE Advice will be there to support conversations around outdoor learning and education visits, whilst sharing good practice, guidance and advice for those involved with taking students outside of the classroom. This is a great opportunity for you to raise personal experiences and ponder over those all-important questions and concerns.

What to expect...
Rule No.1… always expect the unexpected!

The plan is to challenge you, perhaps physically, certainly mentally and we hope, emotionally too. Throw yourself in to get the most out of it. You should come prepared for 3 days away from wifi, cotton sheets and mirrors, but we’ll make up for it with wildlife, amazing landscapes, great company and a few surprises! We will be out in nature whatever the weather (see below). Hearty food, tall stories and evenings around the campfire will top it off. This is a chance to escape, recharge and reflect.

Complete Privacy: The Bioasis is off-grid on a stunning private estate, not accessible to the general public. Ensuring complete privacy and immersion in nature means we can focus on a quality outdoor experience and personal rejuvenation without distractions.

Your Bioasis & EVOLVE Advice mission team: You’ll be under the watchful eye of the Bioasis' experienced outdoor facilitators and instructors who will provide professional insights and support throughout, ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all. To compliment this, Evolve will be there with trusted advisers, ready to impart all important knowledge and insights into the world of Educational visits and outdoor learning. Expect to be tested with a couple of real-life scenarios to inspire thought and good practice.

Food: All food is included from supper on day 1 to lunch on day 3. We source food from local farms and suppliers, and go organic where possible. We can cater for all dietary and allergy requirements, given sufficient notice. We have a Level 5 food hygiene award. There’s one thing we don’t compromise on, and that’s full bellies! And seeing as basecamp will be packed with teachers, there’ll be an abundance of teas & coffees and snacks to enjoy.

Mobile Phones: We appreciate in today's frenetic world that it’s hard to step away from your phones, but… if you can… we’d recommend leaving them at home, or at least turning off data for the duration of the weekend. Nothing ruins the ambience of a beautiful campfire in an incredible setting more than the ‘ping ping’ of whatsapp. Trust us.
But don’t worry, we fully appreciate the needs of family and friends. All our Basecamps have fantastic signal should you need to make those all-important calls home. All we ask is that you limit screen use to those required moments.

Basecamp:

We’ll be based at one of our three purpose built, off-grid basecamps, set in stunning locations far from the public reach. Each basecamp features:

Accommodation: Accommodation is gender separated multi-occupancy tents, sleeping up to 8 in each tent. We provide cot-style 'off-the-floor' camp beds, rugs, deck chairs... It's 'rustic glamping' in a truly incredible spot off-limits to the public. We also have a very limited number of small tents if individuals want private accommodation.

Communal dining: All food is provided and cooked fresh on basecamp by our chef. Meal times are an important opportunity to connect and recount the days adventures, to share stories and to build long-lasting new friendships.

Composting Toilets: Forget the nightmare of festival toilets, our long-drop composting toilets are the Rolls-Royce of outdoor toilets! Sustainable and environmentally friendly, these facilities align with our commitment to low impact regenerative tourism.

Hot Outdoor Showers: Enjoy a refreshing end to your adventurous day with hot showers under the tree canopy/stars.

Firepit: No outdoor experience would be complete without the chance to decompress and share some tall stories under the stars around the firepit.

Biodiversity monitoring equipment: Each basecamp is equipped with camera traps, reptile mats, small mammal traps (live catch/release) and bat detectors. Our team will show you how to use them in order to open your eyes to what’s around you, but which is often hidden. We also have a small library of ID guides and reference books.

Kit and equipment:
All technical equipment will be provided. We’ll provide a full kit list and detailed mission briefing in due course. For the moment, the essential bits of kit you’ll need to bring are:

Sleeping bag (pillow + sleeping mat are optionally but recommended). We have a few to borrow, but if you have your own then we recommend bringing it. We provide camp beds, but an extra mat makes them more comfortable.

-
Sturdy outdoor footwear / walking boots
-
Rough/old clothes / shoes you don’t mind getting wet/muddy when canoeing and/or doing conservation work.
