Corporate Volunteer Days
We support forward thinking organisations to facilitate corporate team building volunteer work and employee volunteer days. Join us for a purpose driven day out, undertaking conservation volunteering and ecology walks in the amazing surrounding of The Bioasis.
Set in 1,200-acres of rugged coastline, ancient woodland, wildflower meadows and sparkling rivers, The Bioasis is one of Devon's most closely guarded secrets. As part of a private 5000 acre estate, much of the unique habitats and ecosystems are not accessible to the public.

We'll spend the day undertaking conservation work such as removing invasive rhododendron and laurel, as well as undertaking woodland walks, learning about the ecology of the area, and seeing the set up of the unique off-grid Bioasis basecamps.
More details below - please get in touch to discuss dates and group sizes.

Overview
Conservation Volunteering and Ecology Day
Dates: on a date of your choosing, subject to availability.

Times: 10 am - 4.30pm

Meeting point: South Devon, exact location to be advised.

Group Sizes: 6 - 50

Price: See below

Once everyone has arrived at the meeting point, we will walk approximately 4kms into one of our Bioasis basecamps. We’ll be walking on a mix of farmland, woodland & estuary trails and up/down a few hills, so footwear needs to be suitable for that.

Along the way, we'll hear from one of our Bioasis leaders about the biodiversity on the estate, how the land is being managed, and the work we do at The Bioasis to bring positive behavioural change through adventure and education.

Once at basecamp, we'll have a site orientation and explain the plan for the day ahead. Depending on your group size, we may split into smaller groups for the afternoon activities.

The afternoon will be spent undertaking hands-on conservation work at a location on the estate. See below for more details as to the type of work you will be involved with.

We aim to be back at your vehicles for 1630.

Volunteer work
Conservation on the estate
We work closely with Natural England, charities, ecologists, landowners and woodland managers to ensure the work we do is both necessary and follows best practice.

Invasive rhododendron
Rhododendron and laurel are both non-native invasive species that can be found in The Bioasis. Their spread in the woodlands is a threat to biodiversity and native wildlife through limiting light and the production of toxins. Removal requires the use of hand-tools, hard work and, later, spraying with a salt mixture (after our teams have finished) to prevent regrowth and encourage local species to thrive.

Ocean plastic clean-up
We work with local Community Interest Company ‘Til the Coast is Clear’ to help clean up the Bioasis estuary from ocean plastic. Since starting work on the estuary in 2021, we have removed over two tonnes of ocean plastic and other rubbish, including tyres, barrels, TVs and even a double mattress.

Himalayan Balsam
Himalayan Balsam is a fast-growing invasive plant that threatens native flora and fauna. It spreads quickly along waterways and requires a concerted effort, over three years, to eradicate it. Removing Himalayan Balsam in The Bioasis is an on-going project, requiring collaboration with multiple landowners, national park authorities and local charities.

Prices
Please contact us to discuss your requirements. We operate on a minimum charge of £350 for the day, but the final price will depend on the size of your group, as we need to work within safety ratios for our supporting staff.

Why should you pay to volunteer?
The Bioasis is not a charity. We receive no external funding for the work that we do and the nature based experiences we deliver.

What does the money go towards?
In order to facilitate these volunteer days safely, we provide qualified staff, all equipment, first aid cover and 4x4 back-up throughout. We operate a comprehensive and externally audited health and safety policy in line with industry good practice. Unfortunately, all these things cost money.

What can you expect in return?
As a professional outdoor services company, you can expect high standards of delivery and peace of mind that we will deliver a meaningful, highly educational and rewarding day out for your group that they will talk about for months to come.
